 'Wish Me Luck'

(Running time - 1hr 30mins)
Black & White
During the summer of 1939, the Government began to publicise a plan entitled 'Operation Pied Piper', a plan to evacuate children from areas of London designated as being likely targets for the German Luftwaffe.
chris
In anticipation of heavy bombing and loss of life, the official evacuation of the children started on the 1st September, 1939, two days prior to the declaration of the Second World War. During the first three days of the evacuation, 827,000 children of school-age were evacuated from the capital. Within a matter of months, many of those evacuated did in fact return to their London homes. Following the fall of France, a second evacuation was started and between the 13th and 18th June, 1940, a further 100,000 children were evacuated. Over the followed weeks many hundreds of thousands of other children were also to be evacuated to safe areas.
chris
This is the story of a small group of school children from the Isle of Dogs, East London, and their journey to Bodmin in Cornwall in June 1940. The story follows their train journey, medical and selection upon arrival, together with the trials, tribulations and adventures they experienced during their time in Cornwall, interwoven with some human interest stories.
chris
The story in particular follows the experiences of two young brothers, Charlie & Reggie, and a talented young lady called Yvette, who has the good fortune to be selected to stay with sixteen other children at Lanhydrock House near Bodmin.
chris
Locations used for filming included:
Lanhydrock House interior (National Trust) near Bodmin,
